Animals that Changed History

Animals that Changed History a dynamic class that unveils the profound impact animals have had on shaping human civilization. Delve into the stories of heroic war animals, ingenious environmental influencers, and revered companions whose contributions transcend the pages of traditional history books. Through concise lectures and engaging discussions, discover how these extraordinary creatures have left an indelible mark, altering the course of historical events and enriching our understanding of the intricate interplay between humanity and the animal kingdom.

Meet the teacher: Jenn H

I taught in public and private schools for many years after getting my NJ Teaching Certificate. Now I am a homeschool mom of one graduated son and one in 8th grade. I have taught in 3 local co-ops over the years. I love teaching history and encouraging students to develop their own opinions about our past and how we can make our future better. I also enjoy crocheting, cooking and basically anything creative.

Biology and Dissection

Hi! I’m Monica. I have 3 crazy kids who love being outside and exploring new places. I have a master’s degree in environmental education and taught for about 17 years before having my own children. I love the freedom homeschool offers and am so glad to be a part of this community:)

Boat Building

Embark on a nautical adventure with our “Boat Building” class, where craftsmanship meets the open sea. I have been home schooling for over 10 years in both PA and NJ. I have 2 children enrolled in co-op. I enjoy nature, science and literature and enjoy learning and growing within the community. I am a dental hygienist by trade so feel free to come to me with any of your burning oral hygiene questions! I love talking teeth!

Creative Writing

Students will write and practice different writing techniques in order to expand their creative writing abilities.

Former lawyer turned educator. Experience teaching English, Spanish, literature, history, Latin, art history and music appreciation. Passions include nature, art and yoga.

Emergency 9-1-1

Introduce your little ones to essential life skills with our “Emergency 9-1-1” Pre-K class. Through interactive and age-appropriate activities, children will learn the importance of safety, recognizing emergencies, and dialing 9-1-1. Focused on nurturing a sense of responsibility and community awareness, this class lays the foundation for a lifetime of understanding emergency procedures.

Exploring Asia

I have been homeschooling my two kids since 2019. Finding new, fun, and creative ways for them to learn is one of my favorite things to do.

Exploring Disney Villains

Ms Lauryn is a long time homeschooling mom of one amazing daughter, and I am also a wellness coach and a lifelong searcher. In my limited spare time, I like to paint, bake, and spend time with my three cats. I can also be found playing Animal Crossing and collecting Tim Burton and Alice in Wonderland memorabilia.

Fiber Arts A La Carte

Unleash the imagination through threads and textiles in our “Fiber Arts à la Carte” class tailored for early elementary kids. Through a palette of colorful activities, young artists will engage in the enchanting world of fiber arts, exploring techniques like looming, crochet, and more. Join us for a hands-on adventure where creativity knows no bounds, as children embark on a journey of self-expression and artistic discovery in the delightful realm of Fiber Arts à la Carte.

I was a preschool and lower elementary teacher for several years. We are a military family and just moved here from being in Japan for 4 and a half years. I have 4 children and we have only been in NJ for 1 year

Fun with Froggy

This is an all-around class for your little student! We will be using the Froggy book series by Jonathan London to teach life lessons and skills. Froggy is relatable to kids and makes it easy to talk about all different topics, including friendship, family, the seasons, learning to swim, and so much more! This class incorporates math, science, reading appreciation, art, music and movement and of course some awesome snacks. So hop to it and join us for a class that will not only be fun for your student but will be educational as well!

Game Inventors

 Ignite creativity and outdoor fun with our “Game Inventors” class, where kids become the architects of their own playtime adventures. Through interactive sessions and collaborative play, children will not only enjoy a variety of outdoor games but also unleash their imaginations to craft and invent brand new ones. Join us for a dynamic and playful journey as young minds transform into game inventors, fostering innovation, teamwork, and a love for the great outdoors.

I’m a mom of 7 with a past life as an elementary/special education teacher. There have been many twists and turns throughout our two year homeschool journey, but co-op has been our favorite part so far!

Gardening

This is an experiential class in which the kids will get dirty. We will learn about soil, compost, pollinators, and more in this hands on class.

I am Laura. I am a retired nurse. I love gardening. I am also a self taught intuitive artist using many media as my experimental playground. In my free time I enjoy cooking, baking, reading, hiking with my dog, yoga, and going to the beach.

Handwriting

This course will focus on handwriting skills. Students will practice writing letters, numbers, and words. Additionally, students will work on writing their first and last name. Various writing tools will be incorporated such as pens, pencils, crayons, chalk, and markers. We will focus on tricks for good handwriting such as how to properly hold a pencil and stay inside the lines in a notebook. This course will also include writing games and handwriting crafts.

My name is Tiffany and I am 33! I have two children, Tinsley (5) and Carmine (2 1/2). We live in pitman nj and have two dogs. Both of my children are very social, curious, and love to make new friends!

Horror Movies and Literature

Karate

students in this class will learn common defense techniques based in Tung Soo Do, a Korean form of karate that incorporates art and function. Students will learn fundamentals of karate as well as some history and a little Korean thrown in for fun!

Meet the teacher: Gabe F

I am a second-degree black belt in Tung Soo Do and have been assisting in class at my local dojang for 2 years. I love karate, piano, guitar and video games. I am really looking forward to teaching the fundamentals of karate to my fellow homeschoolers.

Leadership

The Leadership Class is an empowering and transformative program designed to cultivate essential leadership skills and qualities in individuals. Lego Challenge

Lego challenges all children do develop both creative & logical approaches to solving their problems. Each week students will work in teams and explore a different set of lego building challenges. They will explore everything from animals to neighborhood scenes.

Music and Movement

As a young child, I always cherished the days at my mother’s preschool, playing with the little ones. Ever since I have enjoyed working with and teaching children. After a career in the fashion industry for over a decade, I was longing to work with children again. I had my own childcare business for many years in Philadelphia before having my, now 8 year-old. I love homeschooling, adventuring, staying active, singing, dancing, and having an all-around good time!

Pirate Explorers

Avast, young adventurers! Ready your sea legs for a thrilling expedition into the world of pirates with “Pirate Explorers: A Swashbuckling Adventure for Young Buccaneers.” This course offers a fun and educational journey through the history of pirates and a chance to learn exciting pirate skills.

Miss Betsy is the mom of two co-op students and is looking forward to her second year as a teacher with SJHA. When she isn’t teaching at co-op she enjoys running her e-commerce business, cooking new recipes and reading. This summer, Miss Betsy became a Minecraft certified educator to better serve her community of students at SJHA co-op with more fun and interesting classes.

Pirates of the High Seas

Ahoy, mateys! Set sail on a thrilling voyage into the captivating world of pirates with “Pirates of the High Seas: A Swashbuckling Journey through Maritime History.” This class offers a fascinating exploration of the notorious buccaneers who ruled the waves and left an indelible mark on maritime history.

In this course, you’ll navigate through the annals of time, from the Golden Age of Piracy to the infamous exploits of legendary figures such as Blackbeard, Anne Bonny, and Captain Kidd. Poetry Tea Time

Settle in to a poetry tea time. Students will sip teas (with lemonade and water as alternatives) while listening to various poems. Poems will be discussed afterwards.
